im going to just go ahead and say that this might be one of the best songs in recorded history, or at least one of my favorites: jeff buckley’s “lover you should’ve come over.” i may or may not have had it on repeat-1 for the past 24 hours.  7-octave vocal range + awesome lyrics + a slowly building crescendo = something amazing.

the 4 online radio sites i cant live without

after recently making fun of a co-worker (for what seemed like hours) for still using yahoo launchcast, ill go ahead and just list out the online radio stations i wouldnt have made fun of him for listening to.  in no particular order:

pandora
the granddaddy of online radio sites, this pretty much speaks for itself.

radio paradise
becoming a bigger fan of this with each passing day.  ive never heard any station, FM radio or online, blend together genres the way this site does. indie pop to jazz to grunge to classic rock.  in fact, looking at the playlist right now, the last few songs played include the who, feist, sigur ros, and aretha franklin (sidebar: am i the only one who keeps wanting to accidentally call her “arethra?”).

last.fm
everything pandora is, but with the social networking twist.  on-demand full tracks never hurt either.

yrock on xpn
the king of indie rock radio as far as im concerned.  cant even remember how many awesome bands ive come across while listening to this site.

and thats that.

the moral matrix

TED can sometimes be hit or miss.. but it seems like every few months i stumble across another awesome lecture, and this is definitely a solid (non-partisan) watch on the moral matrix and how liberals and conservatives interpret morality and fairness.  still awake?  good.  now watch this video.

how i spent $117 without realizing it

so i was in nyc last night for what i thought was going to be a $10 concert to see the temper trap (who were great, btw).  instead of having 1 drink and taking the 12:41am back to hamilton though, i ended up getting hammered and staying the night.

upon waking this morning i checked my wallet and noticed that the $120 i withdrew that day had somehow dwindled down to three singles.  at first i thought maybe i dropped my money, or was seduced/robbed by that cute girl mary anne i was chatting up at the bar for an hour, or accidentally paid $50 to the cabbie when i should have paid like $10.

upon closer examination though, i realized the following expense list (links provided for more information where applicable):

6pm-7pm

7pm-8pm

  • ticket to get into the show - $10 (this was the expected part)
  • 2 gin and club soda’s at the venue waiting for steph to get there - $15

8pm-9pm

  • 2 more gin and club soda’s once steph finally does get there - $15
  • 2 gin and tonics for steph - $15

9pm-10pm

  • 2 shots of patron - $20

post 10pm

  • cab back to 53rd and 6th for chicken and rice - $5
  • 2 orders of said chicken and rice - $15 (well worth it, however)
  • back to upper east side for the night - $5

aaannndddd.. we have $120 down the drain.  all in all it was a great time and i would definitely do it again.. but man, that’s bullshit.  new york sucks rules sucks.
